1. ENTRY OPEN TO LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE 50 UNITED STATES AND DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA ONLY, 13 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER. Authors have to be Registered Users of knol.google.com (“Registered Users”). To become a Registered User of the Knol Site, you must register for an account and agree to the Site’s “Terms of Service” and “Knol Content Policy” set forth at knol.google.com.
2. 2. Contest Dates: The Contest begins January 23, 2009 at 12:00:01 AM Pacific Time (“PT”), and ends May 8, 2009 at 11:59:59 PM PT (“Contest Period”). During the Contest Period there is an entry submission event and a judging/clearing event.
3. Enter, create and submit into the contest website an essay (i.e. a “knol”) sharing your knowledge about a particular subject. Contest materials and instructions on how to enter your knol and participate in the Contest will be available on the Knol web site (knol.google.com). For the purpose of this Contest, an Entry is a submission created specifically for this Contest that is complete (as determined by Sponsors). Each Registered User may submit multiple entries during the Open Call for Submissions; however, only the highest ranked knol from each Registered User, as determined by Google in its sole discretion during the course of the initial ranking process, will be counted for purposes of final judging. Any editing of a knol must be complete by last day of submission period.
4. Language: English only.
5. Entries may only be submitted by a knol Owner. Group entries will not be accepted (although different individuals might have taken part in the development of a knol Entry, only one individual may be considered to have produced and submitted the Entry as the final Owner of the knol). Ownership of a knol entry will be determined as of the last day of the contest submission period (11:59:59 PM PT on March 23, 2009)
6. Selection of Top 50 Finalists: On or about March 24, 2009 through March 31, 2009, all eligible entries will be initially evaluated by Google using a ranking process that takes into account, but is not limited to, the following measurement criteria: quality of content, clarity of presentation, importance of subject matter, interest level, and overall impression. The Top 50 entries with the highest ranking, at Google’s discretion, will then be provided to a panel of Wiley representatives (“Panel”).
7. Judging to Determine Winners: The Panel will score each eligible Top 50 Finalist Entry based on the following judging criteria, each given equal weight:
Quality of Content
Clarity of Presentation
Importance of Subject Matter
Interest Level
Overall Impression
Based on the Panel’s scores and Sponsors’ discretion, up to five (5) Entries will be selected as “Potential Winners” one of which will be deemed, the Potential Grand Prize Winner; In the event of a tie, all tied entries will be re-judged by an additional judge selected by Wiley, who, using the judging criteria will break the tie. In the event that there are not enough eligible entries (in Sponsors’ discretion), Sponsors may choose to select less than five (5) Potential Winners. The judges' decisions are final and binding in all matters relating to this Contest.
8. Prizes: One (1) Grand Prize: A check for $1,000 and the opportunity to have winner’s article published on the “For Dummies” web site (www.dummies.com). Four (4) First Prizes: the opportunity to have First Prize Winners’ article published on the “For Dummies” web site (www.dummies.com). To be published on the “For Dummies” web site, winning entries will be edited as deemed appropriate by Wiley, and only those in line with the “For Dummies” brand and standards (at the discretion of Sponsors) will be published.
